| Tip of the Meeting Meeting on 10/30/06 Our Strategy coach gave us this meeting's tip: Think about what you're doing, while your doing it, and if it will affect others. Even a screwdriver propped up against a wall can be a hazard. Think about everything you do and stay safe!!! -Team Overdrive Tip Master- Meeting on 10/16/07 Our head coach mentioned that this has absolutely nothing to do with robotics, but is still a safety rule. Add acid to water as you ought'a. If you put water in acid, it can cause small explosions and other negative effects. And as always, wear safety glasses at all times... properly!! Remember, goggles on your face, keeps the doctor in his place. And he already has enough people to take care of! -Team Overdrive Tip Master- Meeting on 10/2/07 Mr. Moser started off our meeting with a quick clean-up of the tables and floors. They had accumulated stuff over the summer. Then our safety tip became "any mess can be dangerous!!" Not only is it a hazard, but it is an eye-sore for our generous hosts. Besides that, you never know when James might not have his shoes on! Talk about hazards!! -Team Overdrive Tip Master- Meeting on 9/25/07 Safety glasses are more important than you think!!! Use them at all times, because you never know when a printer might blow up in your face, or something like that. Wear them always, and stay safe! -Team Overdrive Tip Master- Meeting on 4/3/07 Our meetings have been hurried and hectic as Team Overdrive prepares to go to Atlanta, Georgia for the National competition. This meeting, as always, we must wear safety glasses. Our mentors pointed out to us that we should wear them during meetings even when we don't think anything could hurt us. But, even such harmless looking things as scissors can cause some horrible accidents. Our tip is to use safety-gear even when using simple things because sometimes the worst accidents are the least expected. -Team Overdrive Tip Master- Meeting on 3/20/07 This meeting's tip was from Mr. Shotyk: "I get the point, you get the handle." This means whenever you are passing a sharp object with a point, you are to hold the point so that the person you are giving it to can take the handle. This is not only safe, but makes passing an easy feat. It's not really that hard anyway, but this makes it easier. -Team Overdrive Tip Master- Meetings on 3/8 & 3/9/07 We found out this tip the hard way. Always, always, always write in your engineering notebook at every meeting, especially before a competition when you make the most changes. If you don't, you'll fall behind and will have to catch up on all the meetings you've missed. It takes more effort and time than if you would just record what you discovered and learned while you're learning it. Also take pictures, lots of pictures! -Team Overdrive Tip Master- Meeting on 3/6/07 This meeting one of our objectives was to remove all rough edges/spots on the robot and this became our safety tip of the meeting. Burrs can not only be dangerous to people (who could get cut on them) but may also cause wire cutting/rubbing which could lead to shortages and other problems that should be avoided. Coach Moser suggested removing all burrs at this week's meeting. -Team Overdrive Tip Master- Meeting on 3/3/07 We discussed the hidden safety hazard of ear damage. During competitions, and sometimes during a few noisy arguments ; ) our coaches and mentors suggested using ear plugs or some sort of ear protection. Coach Moser said that your ears can be very badly damaged just from listening to loud music! Watch out for the ears!! -Team Overdrive Tip Master- Meeting on 2/27/07 This meeting's tip was a safety tip. Coach Moser had the advice: "Safety glasses must be worn at all times." To enforce this, we had our small discussion and, as soon as we were done, we put our safety glasses on. And we weren't allowed to take them off until the end of the meeting. Not ever.
-Team Overdrive Tip Master-
Meeting on 2/20/07 During the start of this nicely organized meeting, Coach Moser distinctly described and defined our specific rules about safety, including the wearing of shoes, long pants, and other safety gear. He also gave the team a horror story about what happens when you don't obey safety rules. Scary. All the mentors and coaches agreed and testified that in the corporate world, safety is a big issue, and if not considered properly, serious injury can result. Coach Moser also told us if the boss tells a worker that safety gear is not mandatory, and if the worker gets hurt, guess who is blamed... THE BOSS! Stay safe!! -Team Overdrive Tip Master-
