Team Overdrive in New York
Team Overdrive arrived at the New York Regional with a completely new robot: Max IV! We were there to test him out and get some more practice driving. We also were not elligible for any judged awards, this being our 4th regional of the season. One of the things we enjoyed a lot was the chance to see how a 2 division FTC competition would run so we could be prepared for the World Championship in Atlanta. We played in Empire and the other division was called Gotham. Our very first match was where we were glad that we had decided to test our robot here and not wait until Atlanta! Max IV got stuck on a ring and we lost that match 67 > 1. The next match we got stuck on a bump in the field and we were devastated. But the score came in that we had won by a miraculous 1 point 17 > 16. Thank you to our alliance partners that round: team 232! The next match we were being careful to avoid bumps and jamming of rings, and managed to win it 61 > 26. We also won the next one 70 > 19. We continued for the rest of our 2 qualifying matches to win. Then it got to alliance selection and we were ranked 4th. The #1 ranked team Robodogs chose team #74 Team Overdrive as their alliance partner! We were excited and helped them pick team 199 Crushinnator as the second pick. In the quarterfinals we won the first match 57 > 39 and the second match 72 > 13. We moved on to the Semifinals where a robot on our alliance got penalized for pinning too long(the robot died when they went to back off) and that resulted in an automatic loss for the alliance. The score was 23 > 0. We knew we had to come back strong and win the next 2 matches in order to advance to the finals. We won the second match 64 > 15 and the 3rd match 72 > 26 and moved on! In the finals of the Empire division we were up against the best alliance yet, the #2 seeded alliance. We won the first match 70 > 39 and the second 75 > 22. We were Empire champions! But meanwhile on the other fields they had determined a Gotham champion and were ready to play the Championship finals! We lost the first match 87 > 52, but came back strong to win the next 2 matches 65 > 28 and 60 > 18 respectively.
We were still undefeated after our 4th Regional!!!!
